Summer found at the Mount Assault

Still wandering where summer is?…

Well a road trip was had by Hans Wannemacher and John Toomath to represent the Mana SUP Club and Wellington at the Mount Assault event in Mt Maunganui. They competed in the 15km SUP and 17km Surf ski long courses. 5km and 10km course options were also available showing the suitability of the event for all levels of paddlers, for what will now be an annual event.

Hans reported 25 degrees from his car temp gauge by the time he hit Taupo and summer was well and truly found (unfortunately further north of us). The warmer temperatures, strong tides, open ocean conditions in the long course didn’t deter Hans as he took out the SUP category, 8min before the next paddler. John known for his SUP skills, and recently picking up a surf ski gained some invaluable experience from the event and it’s open ocean conditions.

Feedback from the event was excellent, very well organised, and catered for all levels and craft types. A good summer vibe on the water to kick off the summer paddling. Put this event on your bucket list for 2015!

Thanks to the organiser and helpers: Craig Jones, and the Mount Surf Ski Club.
